H-1B / H4 Visa
You should Know:
H1B visa status is the most handy option for many nationals, especially Indian citizens for getting employment authorization to work lawfully in the U.S. However, it has a time-sensitive calendar. At present the H1B application calendar is like this:
An employer submits a lottery registration for an employee between March 1st to 20th.
USCIS declares the selection results before March 30th.
Employer files a completes petition with USCIS between June 1 to 30th.
The employee can start working for the same employer as from October 1st or date of approval, whichever comes later.
H1B status holder employee can work only for the same employer company only.
Maximum time available for H1B visa status is six years (= 2190 days in aggregate) of employment in the U.S.
H1B status can be extended beyond six years if any U.S. employer entity filed an immigrant petition I-140 which has been approved by USCIS.
