Know the Basics

Know the Basics on your Immigration Journey

Non-immigrant Visa is issued by Consulate which has an expiration date.

Such as B1/B2, F1-F2, H1B-H4, L1-L2, P1, R1-R2

Visa allows you to board the plane and land at a U.S. Airport

Office at the airport reviews your visa and allows you to enter the U.S.

Your I-94 is generated online which shows what is your visa status and what is validity.

You must leave the U.S. before expiration date marked on I-94.

If you want to stay for additional time, you must file an application for change or extension of status before expiration date.

If you submit the extension application, you can stay in U.S. till (a) End date requested on your pending application or (b) expiration date of your approved extension (c) receiving denial letter of your application – whichever comes first out of a, b, c.

If you are changing the visa status in the U.S., the benefits of new status become effective only after approval of application.
